London Gatwick boost for Flybe

6th October 2009 Print
Flybe is reporting a healthy upsurge in bookings out of its London Gatwick base as passengers increasingly appreciate its more convenient South terminal location that now offers one of the fastest and most convenient ways to and from the City.

The recent news that the transit service between the airport’s North and South terminals is to be closed for eight months has sent shockwaves through those using the country’s second biggest airport, the replacement bus service adding an extra 20 minutes to transit times for north-south passengers that includes those using the Gatwick Express.

However, it’s good news all round for those who choose to travel with Flybe on any of its 466 flights a week from London Gatwick’s South terminal, who remain wholly unaffected by the stress and inconvenience of those struggling against all odds to queue for buses to take them to and from the North terminal.

Leading corporates have been amongst the first to take steps to ensure that their staff suffer as little disruption as possible when travelling on business, by immediately changing travel policies that mandate all London Gatwick flights be booked with Flybe.

Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer says: “Flybe now carries the largest number of domestic passengers from London Gatwick than any other airline. Passengers and booking agents have been quick to realise that, by booking with Flybe, they can now also offset the less than adequate transport link between the two terminals that, over the next eight months or so, will greatly inconvenience travellers having to use Gatwick’s North Terminal.

“We have a strong corporate client base which uses our services to and from London Gatwick that includes 92 flights a week to the capital from the Channel Islands alone. So we are delighted that, as well as offering our passengers the convenience and flexibility of quality, affordable regional travel we are now, by default, more widely recognised as the carrier that can offer the fastest and most convenient way to travel to the City.”
