Shop online for perfume and electronical bargains

19th November 2009 Print

Cost-conscious shoppers should use the internet this Christmas - Which? saved almost £400 shopping online for 27 gifts.

The consumer champion saved a total of £383 online on a variety of Xmas gifts compared to typical high-street prices. The best savings online were for fragrances and electronics. Bargains included:

A Samsung TV was £310 at Ajelectronics.co.uk - £69 cheaper than the typical high-street price (£379).

An Altec Lansing MP3 Speaker Dock was just over £112 at Amazon.co.uk, £38 cheaper than the typical price.

A 100ml bottle of Calvin Klein Eternity for Men was £18 cheaper and a 50ml bottle of Dior J'Adore was £7 cheaper online than on the high-street.

The cheapest prices aren't always on the net, though - supermarkets can often give the best deals on entertainment items, particularly CDs, books, DVDs and Blu-ray discs. Jamie's America was £10 in Tesco - nearly £3 less than the cheapest online shop, Play.com.

Which? also asked its members how satisfied they were with online retailers. Top of the table with customer scores of 90 per cent or more were Lizearle.com (for cosmetics, 91 per cent); Johnlewis.com (for home and garden products, 91 per cent); and Play.com (for entertainment, 90 per cent).

At the bottom of the pile was PCworld.co.uk (for electricals) with a customer score of just 51 per cent. Joining it was DIY.com (B&Q's website for home and garden, 59 per cent) and Laredoute.co.uk (for clothes, shoes and accessories, 53 per cent).

Melanie Dowding, Deputy Editor, Which? Online, said: "If you're counting the pennies this Christmas, you're usually better off staying home and shopping online. If you are out and about, though, supermarkets can be good for smaller items for your Christmas stocking, and are sometimes cheaper than online."
