Glasgow Prestwick Airport announces new Jersey route

3rd December 2009 Print

Glasgow Prestwick Airport has today announced a new direct route to Jersey next summer.

Jersey-based C. I. Travel Group, the Channel Islands’ largest tour operator, will offer holiday packages and flights every Saturday between June 19 & September 11 next year.

Operated by Flybe, using a 78-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft, the route will be sold by C. I. Travel Group’s well-established consumer brands that include Airways Holidays, Discover Jersey and Channel Islands Travel Service.

“It’s a double helping of good news for Prestwick,” said Passenger Development Manager Paula Horne. “Not only do we have a wonderful new sunshine route to the Channel Islands, but we also welcome Flybe, Europe's biggest regional airline, which is operating its first-ever scheduled service from the airport.

“It means our prospects are excellent as we go into 2010 with thirty-three great low-cost routes around the UK and Europe.”

Paula added: “The Jersey connection comes hot on the heels of the announcement of our new Ryanair route to Carcassonne next year, so we now have two terrific new names for our 2010 destination board.

“We’re convinced Jersey will be a massive success from Prestwick. Another great favourite with Scottish sun-seekers, it’s Europe without the Euro, so your holiday pound will go further.

“Half the size of Arran, approximately nine miles by five, Jersey is the most southerly island of the British Isles. One hundred miles from the south coast of England and only fourteen miles from the coast of France, the weather is always mild and sunny.

“Jersey is a great destination for a family holiday and there are lots of tourist attractions starting at the capital St Helier. The coastline is unspoiled, with wonderful sandy beaches and coves. It also has over forty miles of “Green Lanes”' with a speed limit of 15 miles an hour, perfect for cyclists, horse riders and walkers who are given priority on these lanes.”

Booking options:

Flybe.com for flight only

Jerseytravel.com or Discoverjersey.com for package holidays and flights.

In addition, passengers will receive free rail travel for the first six months of the service and 50% discount thereafter. To get free travel tickets, passengers should produce their original flight confirmation (the booking confirmation with the airline logo) at a First ScotRail Booking Office or the airport's Service desk where they will be issued with a free travel voucher to anywhere in Scotland.
