Jersey flights return to Durham Tees Valley Airport for summer

In the latest boost to next summer’s holiday programme from Durham Tees Valley Airport, it’s been announced that flights will again be operating to a very popular destination for North East holidaymakers - the island of Jersey.

Jersey-based C. I. Travel Group, the Channel Islands’ largest tour operator, will be offering a weekly service every Saturday from May 29th to September 11th and the company’s Managing Director Robert Mackenzie predicts it will again be a winner with visitors old and new.

The flights, which will be operated by the airline Flybe, will be sold by C.I.Travel Group’s well-known brands including Airways Holidays, Discover Jersey and Channel Islands Travel Service - and will also be available for Jersey hoteliers wanting to offer direct flights from the region.

Says Robert Mackenzie “We are delighted to have concluded negotiations for the launch of a new service from Durham Tees Valley in the summer of 2010. The route has proved exceptionally popular in recent years and ,with many more UK holiday-takers deserting the Euro-zone in favour of a holiday closer to home, we believe that this new route will prove to be popular with both new and existing clients in the Tees Valley region.

“Durham Tees Valley is ideally placed for people right across the North East of England. It has good road links - over two and half million people are within an hour’s drive - and, of course is easily accessed by main line rail services to Darlington.”

The new service has been given a warm welcome by travel chiefs in Jersey. Says Tourism Director David de Carteret “C. I. Travel Group’s initiative is welcomed by everyone in Jersey’s tourism industry as this opens up an excellent opportunity for the island to market itself to a community that can now put Jersey on their shopping list as a very convenient and attractive option. We look forward to working together to secure a successful operation.”

Adds Durham Tees Valley Airport Marketing and Communications Manager Emma Ormerod “We know that Jersey is a destination that is always in demand from our customers and we are delighted that it will again be on offer next summer - adding to what is a rapidly growing holiday flight programme from the airport.

“We are especially pleased to be working with C. I. Travel Group who really are the top Channel Island specialists, having been operating for over 25 years and carried over 30,000 passengers from the UK to the islands this year.”
