Cementing its position as the most important new commercial vehicle of the year, Nissan’s versatile NV200 van has been awarded the prestigious title of What Van? Van of the Year 2010.

Brushing aside competition from a wide range of commercial vehicle competitors, the ground-breaking Nissan not only scooped the Light Van category win but was also selected as the overall What Van? Van of the Year 2010.

What Van?’s experts sums up the NV200’s victory: “If Dr Who drove a van, he’d probably drive Nissan’s new NV200. That’s because, like the TARDIS, it’s a lot bigger inside than it looks from the outside. Thanks to an intelligent bit of packaging it has the footprint of a short wheelbase van but the cargo space of one with a long wheelbase; a key reason why it’s our Light Van and Van of the Year for 2010 award winner.”

Despite only recently arriving on the UK commercial vehicle market, the NV200 is already no stranger to success. In addition to being What Van? Van of the Year 2010, the unstoppable Nissan is also International Van of the Year 2010 and ITM Van of the Year 2010.

Take a look at the NV200’s vital statistics and it’s easy to see why it’s shot to the top of the van market. The same 1.5-litre diesel engine powers all variants, emitting only 137g/km of CO2 with combined fuel economy of 54mpg. Prices start at £12,090 for E grade and rise to only £12,590 for the well-appointed SE model. What’s more, the NV200’s cargo capacity of 4.16m3 is bigger than any of its direct competitors’.

Nissan’s corporate sales director, Tony Lewis comments: “There’s no stopping the NV200 – it’s great to see the class leading package and amazing efficiency recognised in yet another award. We’re delighted to receive the What Van? Van of the Year title and look forward to the NV200 range growing further in 2010.”

While the NV200 is currently offered only in van form, MPV buyers will get the chance to sample its talents in 2010 when the Combi version joins the range. Ready to go on sale in the February, this variant will offer seven seat versatility to match its value and efficiency.
