Ford vehicles older than three years are invited to compete for a free makeover.

With over 3.8 million pre-2008 Ford cars remaining on the road following the end of Government scrappage incentives, Ford dealers are gearing up to service more of them.

Helping to attract more out-of-warranty Fords to dealers is the offer of a free 29-point Visual Health Check at any Ford authorised repairer or Rapid Fit centre. Ford owners have the opportunity, until 19 June, to enter a competition to have their vehicle refurbished up to a value of £10,000.

Owners taking advantage of the free check can enter their car or van in the competition by submitting a photo and short explanation as to why their Ford should be restored. Ford WRC driver and classic Ford fan Mikko Hirvonen will choose one lucky vehicle to be refurbished.

Ford owners having work done as a result of the Visual Health Check will be entered into another draw where five winners will receive their money back up to £1,000. The first 20,000 Ford owners to enter will receive a Ford road atlas.

The free Visual Health Check includes inspection of the wheels and tyres, electrical systems, fluids, brakes, steering and exhaust.

Andy Barratt, Ford's director of customer service, said: "Over 43,000 new Fords took to the road as part of the scrappage scheme but there are still millions of happy owners driving older Fords. To them we are offering this free check to help maintain the reliability they've come to expect from their Ford."
