With the Operators Compliance Risk Score (OCRS) system used by VOSA becoming even more important and affecting O Licences, the recording and retrieval of vehicle maintenance records is increasingly critical for truck operators.

Now DAF has developed DAFcheck, its own in house web-based system for recording the inspection and service history of trucks, and it has made it available free-of-charge to operators.

It has also opened up the service to other marques, making it ideal for use by operators of mixed fleets who want to use only one system. DAFcheck can be used for any size of fleet and because it is web-based and can be accessed from anywhere at any time, it is well-suited for use where a fleet is widely dispersed across a number of operating locations.

Of particular note is the fact that the DAFcheck system complies with VOSA’s ‘Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness’ which can impact on safety and maintenance inspection intervals.

As well as being free to use, DAFcheck brings numerous benefits to operators. In particular it:

Provides reliable records that will help protect an operator’s O Licence.

Is paperless and reduces administration time and costs.

Is web-based and can be accessed from any web-enabled PC anywhere, instantly and at any time.

Provides full traceability of a vehicle’s inspection, maintenance and repair history, which can support better residual values.

Access to DAFcheck begins when a vehicle is inspected by a trained technician at a DAF dealership. As the technician proceeds through the inspection he records the findings on a workshop-based computer using touch-screen inputs to pre-determined questions. Customer reported defects can also be included.

Objective measures are recorded ‘intelligently’ with prompts where the entered information appears to contradict that stored in the machine, for example when brake thickness is greater than recorded at the last inspection. On completion of the inspection the technician signs-off the inspection electronically declaring that the vehicle is serviceable and the system will not allow this until all the sections have been completed.

This information is immediately available to the operator, who can also see a range of other data to support better management of fleet safety and roadworthiness. Clear symbols show the status of each inspection with a colour-coding system that indicates roadworthiness condition from green, meaning roadworthy, to red showing a vehicle to be unroadworthy. All defects arising from the inspection are clearly listed.

Clicking on the print icon displays a window on which a selected inspection or service sheet can be viewed, printed, saved or e-mailed. A ‘Job Filter’ facility enables the user to drill down to more specific detail, such as which DAF dealers have carried out a DAFcheck inspection on a particular vehicle and the types of service that have been carried out. Searches can also be carried out using a registration or fleet number, with all inspections and related activities performed on that vehicle being shown.

More than 130 UK DAF dealers are now equipped with DAFcheck and all have fully trained technicians giving DAF nationwide coverage. Operators wanting to know more can contact their local dealer or go to dafcheck.eu and request information via the e-mail link.
