Over a hundred visitors turned up to a recent open day held by Barratt for suppliers and sub-contractors wanting to find out more about working on the new Pan Meadows development on the Isle of Wight.

The Isobel Centre at Downside County Middle School in Newport played host to the event which invited construction workers to speak to the Barratt team and discuss opportunities to work on the 846 home development which is expected to last 14 years.

Barratt commercial director Ian Sneddon said: “The open day was a huge success and we were delighted with the amount of people who have shown an interest in working with us on Pan Meadows. For anyone who was unable to attend, we will be holding another event in September.”

For those who did attend, tender packs have been issued to sub-contractors shortly and details of individuals/single tradesmen which attended will be given to the successful sub-contractors for them to assess and interview.

Work on Pan Meadows, situated between Staplers Road and St Georges Way, will commence in June and will also include a new country park, including a ranger station, visitor centre, new recreation and play areas teamed with new local recycling centres.

Each home will be built to high green standards and level 4 in the Code for Sustainable Housing. Homes will be powered by a specially created biomass plant which will supply energy from burnt woodchip, sourced primarily from the Island.
