Alpine summer adventures at rocksresort

11th June 2010 Print

Calling all adrenaline junkies! For a summer adventure with a difference head to the Alpine region of Flims Laax Falera, only 90 minutes from Zürich, where a plethora of exhilarating mountain activities awaits.

The brand-new rocksresort, proud winner of a Wallpaper* design award earlier this year, will celebrate its first summer season from July to September, and offers the perfect base from which to explore the high altitudes.

Already a firm favourite with discerning winter sport fans, stylish rocksresort is set to be a hit this summer with a hip crowd looking for adventurous mountain thrills. Highly innovative in design, yet blending in perfectly with its Alpine backdrop, rocksresort is a visually arresting and unique holiday resort. The complex is located directly at Laax’s base station, in the heart of the area. It features 102 contemporary two- and four-bedroom apartments spread out over seven cube-shaped buildings, making it the perfect ‘home-away-from-home’ for friends or families.

The 85-room boutique hotel signinahotel forms part of the complex, as do several shops, restaurants and bars, which are all arranged around a central piazza. This enables rocksresort to offer the privacy and comfort of an apartment combined with the comprehensive services of a four-star hotel, including housekeeping and concierge service.

The destination Flims Laax Falera offers a seemingly endless choice of outdoor activities for mountain fans of all ages. Renowned as one of Europe’s top mountain bike destinations, guests can choose from over 330km of sign-posted trails for all levels, from budding bikers to freerider pros. There is something for everyone, be it Cross Country trails, freeride routes, or scenic ‘Sunset Rides’. Not to be missed is the challenging new freeride course from Crap Sogn Gion to Laax. The pulse-quickening 7km route takes one steep turn after another, turning it into the ultimate flow-experience for mountain bike aficionados.

Flims is also one of the most varied hiking regions in the Alps. 250km of marked hiking trails offer plenty of variety, with emerald green swimming lakes, crystal clear mountain streams, and unspoilt woodlands all forming part of the breathtaking landscape. The historic Pinut via ferrata, Switzerland’s oldest existing fixed-rope route, is a highlight, as are St. Martin’s Hole and the Tschingelhörner mountains, which have been on the Unesco World Heritage Site list since 2008.

Other absolute musts for outdoor lovers include river rafting on the Rhine Gorge, ‘wild’ lake swimming in the turquoise waters of Lake Cauma, and testing the dizzying heights of the new family high-rope course. Rejuvenating mountain air, award-winning accommodation, and thrilling Alpine adventures make Flims a holiday destination not to be missed this summer.
