Fairy Cakes

Just one nibble of a fairy cake and you’re transported back to your childhood. The basic recipe is incredibly simple, but once you start indulging in elaborate toppings you’ve got the makings of a feast fit for any time of day – lunch, afternoon tea, picnics and, of course, children’s birthday parties.

Britain is going back to its roots as far as baking is concerned.  Whether it’s a tray of retro fairy cakes, a batch of honey & oat cookies or a rich fruit cake, we appreciate that the satisfaction of creating something ourselves is immense.  And now, thanks to the launch of Allinson Nature Friendly flour, we can also help to preserve British wildlife while we’re at it.

Allinson Nature Friendly flour is 100% British and leads the way in premium quality flours. When Dr Thomas Allinson founded the brand in 1892 he was passionate about both producing the best ingredients and caring for the environment.  This love and consideration for his surroundings lives on today through Nature Friendly flour.

Next time you’re in the mood to do a bit of baking, think about those childhood favourites, topped with some crazy-coloured butter icing.  And do you bit for the environment while you’re at it by opting for Allinson Nature Friendly flours which are milled from Conservation Grade wheat, from farms which demonstrate their dedication to helping wildlife flourish by:

- Growing wildflowers and building ponds
- Erecting bird and bat boxes for nesting
- Planting hedgerows and trees to protect essential food sources eg wild berries
- Prohibiting the use of harmful agro-chemicals

Creating the right habitat for wildlife to flourish helps to provide a more balanced and sustainable environment allowing crops to be pollinated naturally and helps to provide a sustainable environment for the future. There is regularly five times more wildlife on Nature Friendly Farms.
