2nd July 2010 Print

Soon after its launch, in September 2010 two additional diesel engines and a third straight six-cylinder petrol engine will be added to the BMW 5 Series Touring range.

As with the Saloon, the Touring will get one of the world’s most powerful straight-six diesel engine: the 299bhp 535d with BMW twin turbocharger and common rail direct injection technology. Sprinting from zero to 62mph in only 5.7 seconds, the BMW 535d Touring is as parsimonious as it is powerful averaging a combined fuel consumption of 44.8mpg.

Completing a full line-up of diesel models will be the BMW 525d Touring. Featuring a 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder engine plus a single turbocharger with variable intake geometry and common rail direct injection, the engine delivers 204hp at 4,000rpm, with maximum torque of 450Nm between 1,750 and 2,500rpm. The BMW 525d Touring accelerates from zero to 62mph in 7.3 seconds and has an average fuel consumption of 44.8mpg.

Using the 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder with High Precision Direct Injection, the BMW 528i Touring delivers a power output of 258hp at 6,600rpm and achieves maximum torque of 310Nm between 2,600 and 5,000rpm. The BMW 528i Touring sprints from zero to 62mph in just 6.9 seconds, while average fuel consumption is 35.3mpg.
