Summer Fiesta in Pissouri Bay
Renowned Columbia Beach Resort in Pissouri Bay, Cyprus has announced its first summer fiesta to take place on 12th July in the grounds of this five star hotel.
The fiesta will offer traditional live entertainment and showcase the best arts and crafts on the island of Cyprus. And guests will have the chance to sample Cypriot food specialities typically seen in the Cyprus Meze being prepared in situ by the Resort’s celebrated chefs.
A local folkloric group will entertain with a dance show and a live band will contribute towards the festive atmosphere while guests have the opportunity buy silverware, pottery and sweet delicacies such as the famous Cyprus Delight. An entry fee of 32 Euros will include a welcome drink. Two more fiestas are planned for September (dates tbc).
A highlight of the fiesta will be the famous Lefkara lace which dates back to the Venetian occupation of the island (1489-1571) which produced “Lefkaritika”, a form of needlework of drawn and counted thread embroidery. Famous all over the world the lace is made by the women of the village of Lefkara in the south of Cyprus. This village, high in the mountains, was the principal summer resort of wealthy Venetians. The old Italian white needlework containing the cut-work, drawn thread-work and reticella fillings common in Italy, particularly in Venice, during the 16th century was copied and survives today in dresses, table wear and more.
