Yoga retreats in Finland
Those looking for an inspiring and fulfilling holiday break should consider the Yoga Art Magic breaks at The Midnight Sun Ashtanga Yoga Retreat in Finland.
The retreat takes place in a very simple two storey house situated on a rock overlooking the sea on the island of Kadermo, situated about 10 km north east of Hanko, Finland’s most southerly town.
It is one of thousands of islands of different sizes, many of them as untouched and free as at the moment of their birth. There are no shops or cars and hardly any other people on the island. This is a unique opportunity to experience yoga in untouched and idyllic surroundings far away from city lights where in the summer months sunrise is at 4 am and sunset at 11 pm.
There are two types of retreat on offer, longer retreats from between two and nine weeks and shorter weekend breaks.
For shorter rejuvenating breaks the weekend workshops, running from Friday night to Sunday evening offer an intense but calming experience. Arrivals to Hanko are on a Friday night and departures from the island are on Sunday at 3pm. Included in the 200 Euros price is lodging, two meals a day (brunch and dinner) and two yoga sessions per day.
Longer retreats vary from one week to nine weeks with special post Christmas programmes aimed at detoxifying from all the pre Christmas indulgence and clearing body and mind before the New Year. This programme runs from the 26th of December to the 3rd of January 2011 and the price is 600 Euro.
The retreat serves only pure vegetarian food but there is a café on the island where visitors can enjoy fresh coffee, healthy cakes, smoothies and piano music!

Getting to Hanko:
There is a train from Helsinki to Hanko which takes approx. 2 hours and the price is 25 Euros for a one way ticket. easyjet (easyjet.com) flies to Helsinki from London Gatwick and in September has returns from £54.98 including all taxes and charges but not luggage allowance.
