Specialist wildlife operator, Reef & Rainforest Tours, has introduced a new luxury tour with a twist.

The new trip takes intrepid travellers into one of India's least visited tiger reserves, Satpura National Park, the first and only reserve to allow walking safaris, ensuring more intimate encounters with the world's biggest cat. Prior to this, visitors had been restricted to vehicle or elephant-back safaris only.

In addition to the little visited Satpura, the tailor-made tour also includes game drives in two of India's more famous tiger reserves, Pench and Kanha.

Established in 1981, Satpura National Park covers an area of 524 sq km of unique central Indian highland ecosystem. Virtually tourist-free, privileged visitors can explore this unrivalled wilderness on foot, by canoe, by elephant and through silent vigils in carefully sited hides.

Perhaps the most scenically spectacular of any of the tiger reserves in India, Satpura is also home to leopard, wild boar, sloth bear, porcupine and a huge variety of birdlife. The new tour allows maximum time for guests to soak up the fabulous natural surroundings as well as using the best lodges for total luxury.

A sample 10-night itinerary costs from £3,863 per person sharing and includes:

* Nine nights full board accommodation
* One night bed and breakfast accommodation in Delhi
* Airport transfers
* Morning and afternoon game drives in Kanha and Pench National Parks
* Walking tours and game drives in Satpura National Park
* Optional boat trips and elephant rides in Satpura National Park
* Regional and international flights

Now is the best time to go as the parks re-open next month, October to July.
