It cost less than a £1 to power the winning Nicholson Mclaren Engines (NME) converted Nemo Electric Van the 60 miles from Brighton to London last weekend.  This electrifying achievement saw the NME Electric Nemo Van win the award of ”Most Economic Light Commercial Electric Van” in the first RAC Brighton to London Future Car Challenge.

Driven by VansA2Z editor Neil McIntee, with co-driver Simon North, business specialist at South London Citroën dealer Bellamys, the NME Nemo Electric Van was also the most economical electric vehicle on the run, using only just over half the energy (10 units to 18) of the next most economical electric vehicle, a car.  As well as the NME Nemo Electric Van, electric vans and cars were entered by a wide range of manufacturers including Ford, Land Rover, Mini, Nissan, Proton, Smart, Tata and Volkswagen.

John Waghorn, Nicholson Mclaren Engines’ Sales Director, comments, “We are delighted that the NME Nemo Electric Van proved so successful in the RAC Brighton to London Future Car Challenge.  It is very satisfying to see that our electric vehicle technology delivers the performance and economy that beat the many other rival electric vehicles in this event by a very large margin.  The Nemo Electric Van is now available from NME to suit a wide range of urban business transport applications.”

The Nicholson Mclaren Engines Nemo Electric Van, developed jointly with the Guernsey-based Electric Vehicles Company, is one of the most advanced and practical electric light commercials available in the UK. The NME Nemo Electric Van has a range of up to 80 miles, a top speed limited to 60mph and a payload of 540kg.  Based on the Citroën Nemo van, the NME Nemo Electric Van conversion is ideally suited for urban operation, with its roomy, up to 2.8cum load compartment, compact external size and easy manoeuvrability.

Wokingham-headquartered Nicholson McLaren Engines has an established reputation for producing affordable and practical alternative fuel vehicles.  In addition to electric vehicles Nicholson Mclaren Engines also converts hundreds of Citroën vans every year to London Congestion Charge Zone exempt Dual Fuel (petrol/LPG) format.

The winning Nicholson McLaren Engines Nemo will feature on the VansA2Z/ecoVansA2Z stand at the Eco2 Transport Show, being held at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, on 16 – 18 November 2011.
