BMW 1 Series Coupe - What Car? Car of the Year

22nd December 2010 Print

Beating off strong competition from the likes of Porsche and Aston Martin the BMW 1 Series Coupe scooped the category honour for the Best Coupe in the annual What Car? Readers Awards. With not one reader awarding it less than four stars, BMW’s smallest coupe then went on to take the title as Best Car Overall with an average score of five stars.  The 1 Series Coupe came out on top being praised for its solid build quality, wallet pleasing economy and grin inducing dynamics.

James Morrison, BMW 1 Series Product Manager, said of the win: “To have beaten such tough competition is a testament, not just to the quality of the BMW 1 Series Coupe, but also to our customers who are so passionate about their cars.  With the customer being the most important critic, BMW couldn’t be more proud to have won such an important award.”

The BMW 1 Series Coupe and Convertible will be revised for March 2011 to keep them ahead of the competition. One new feature is the introduction of an Aero Curtain which channels air from the front of the car through two ducts that exit in the wheel arches. This jet of air creates a curtain that smoothes air flow in the wheel arch region to improve overall aerodynamics and lower CO2 emissions.
