British Airways launches 2011 city flights to Ibiza

24th March 2011 Print

April is the perfect month to explore Ibiza and its vibrant Catalan culture away from the reams of party goers who visit the island during the summer months.

For 2011, due to popular demand British Airways has brought forward their Ibiza leisure flights from London City Airport departing from 27th March. With one way flights currently starting from just £70, British Airways provides the perfect opportunity to travel in comfort and enjoy the White Isle at this beautiful time of year.

Although not peak season there is plenty to do in Ibiza in April. With its stunning coastline Ibiza is a hotspot for sailing enthusiasts. The Ruta de la Sal (Salt Sailing Race) takes place over Easter and is considered one of the most important boat races in the Mediterranean. Over 300 boats take part, and the race finishes in San Antonio where visitors to the island can witness the end to what is always a very exciting race.

For sport enthusiasts Ibiza boasts a huge selection of mountain biking trails. April is the perfect month for biking as the weather is still relatively cool. The routes around the island are graded from green to black depending on the level of difficulty and can now be downloaded directly from Ibiza's official tourism site (ibiza.travel). Bikes can be hired from numerous rental outlets across the island.

Many of the locals on the island are devoutly Catholic and the long bank holiday period over the Easter week is a great opportunity for visitors to experience the somber yet fascinating religious processions. The processions take place in various locations throughout the island, with the main events taking place in Ibiza Town and Santa Eulalia. Visitors will be intrigued to see that the triangular hats and robes worn by those involved have an eerie pagan resemblance.

Ibiza is certainly not short of hotels and in April prices are typically lower than the peak summer months. El Hotel Pacha (elhotelpacha.com) is a great choice for visitors who desire a more central location, situated just a short walk from Ibiza Town and the fortified walls of Dalt Vila. The El Hotel Pacha restaurant is popular with the locals and offers a delicious three course set lunch menu from Monday to Saturday for €22 including a glass of wine. Until the end of May, a select number of restaurants and hotels on the island are also offering a special degustación menu including five courses and a bottle of wine for just €35. El Hotel Pacha is no exception and offers their unique degustación menu from Thursday to Sunday evenings, and also for lunch on Sunday. Double rooms are priced at €120 per night in April (junior suite) based on two people sharing on a B&B basis.

For a budget friendly option, The Llobet Apartments are located on Figueretas Beach overlooking the sea-front with prices starting from just €55 per person per night on a B&B basis. Recently renovated, the comfortable apartments are just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre and offer stunning views of Dalt Vila. The complex's restaurant All Café Bistro serves delicious Mediterranean cuisine and offers great views only adding to the apartments' appeal. The restaurant is also offering a fabulous five course degustación menu (available until the end of May), available each evening from Sunday to Thursday and priced at €35 including wine.

If something a little more rural appeals, then guests should consider Can Pere. The hotel is a beautifully restored 19th century colonial style estate, boasting stunning views of the surrounding valley. Can Pere is offering a ten percent discount on bookings made before the end of April with rates starting from £112 per night for a double room on a B&B basis (inclusive of the discount).
