While the world’s top cyclists battle it out in France for honours in the Tour de France an intrepid bunch of cyclists were just as determined in their fundraising efforts in South Wales.

More than 25 members of staff and friends of Barratt South Wales battled wind, rain and finally brilliant sunshine to complete the 85 miles from Swansea to Caerwent – taking in 10 of the housebuilder’s developments en route and raising more than £2,500.

Organised by Barratt’s senior technical manager Mike Williams the cyclists left Copper Quarter in Swansea in heavy rain on a route which included visiting developments in Sarn, Rhydyfelin, Bettws and the finish point at Barratt’s Castlemead development in Caerwent.

The intrepid cyclists were raising money for the Kids Out Charity which aims to transform the lives of these children by providing fun, positive activities and experiences.

“The day was a huge success with the cyclists proving a determined bunch who certainly didn’t let the wind and rain affect their enthusiasm for the challenge,’’ said Barratt sales director Adrian Bird.

“It was great to see so many of our staff, suppliers and contractors involved in what was an extremely tough day on the bikes and I think some will be taking a well earned rest from the saddle for the next few weeks.’’
