Machu Picchu - book in advance to avoid disappointment

5th August 2011 Print

Western & Oriental Travel’s Latin America experts are urging travellers to book well in advance and preferably through a tour operator in order to secure entrance tickets to Machu Picchu and avoid missing out on an opportunity to explore the breathtaking archaeological site.

The authorities in Peru have recently imposed restrictions on the maximum daily number of visitors to the fragile Machu Picchu, reducing the total number permitted by almost half to 2,500 per day.  During the festivals and celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Machu Picchu last month, many visitors found themselves disappointed as the maximum capacity was reached and people had to be turned away without being able to reach the iconic citadel.

Western & Oriental Travel Latin America (WandOTravel.com) offers a range of options for visitors to Peru and Machu Picchu, including elegant hotels and lodges, treks, train travel and escorted tours, as well as securing your entrance in advance. For bookings made before 31 August 2011, Western & Oriental Travel Latin America has reduced the price of its 12 night ‘Wonders of Peru’ escorted tour by £180 per person, bringing the cost down to £1,895 per person. This is based on two sharing including accommodation, flights, transfers and a guide. Departures begin in September and are monthly until October 2012.  Guaranteed departures for a minimum of two people.
