Escapa.com great migration safari

10th August 2011 Print

New luxury tour operator escapa.com  is encouraging travellers to book and travel now for the chance to witness the great migration, one of the nature’s greatest spectacles, in a most magnificent, setting - the vast open plains of Tanzania’s glorious Serengeti National Park.

Originating in the Southern Serengeti this annual movement of wildebeest across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem is a sight to behold, as in a primal search of food the vast open plains fill with around 1.5 million wildebeest, 200 000 zebra, 18 000 eland and 500 000 Thompson’s gazelle all anxiously on the look out for Africa’s great predators who ruthlessly stalk them to satisfy their own ravenous appetites.

The key to a successful safari is placing yourself within the animals habitat and Escapa have found the best location to provide a truly close up and personal experience, with the opportunity to see ‘the greatest show on earth’ from ring side seats. This three day safari incorporates all the vital ingredients for the perfect African escape and a chance to see the great migration as and observe wildebeest elephants, antelope, lions and cheetah in their natural habitat.

Accommodation is simple yet luxurious as guests enjoy the romantic 1930’s ‘out of Africa’ style luxury tented camps. With just eight tents in each private camp, there is an intimate and relaxed atmosphere, encouraging local wildlife to stay close as the canvas tents just blend in to the natural landscape, providing many unique photo opportunities. The camps are carefully positioned on the well trodden route of the great migration ensuring travellers have an un-spoilt view of the Serengeti with wildlife roaming in the back yard and a spectacular view for this annual spectacle. The luxurious tents boast double beds, fully operational bathrooms, crisp linen sheets and hot gravity showers ensuring a relaxed and refreshed start to the day before heading out into the wilderness to witness one of nature’s greatest events.

Both camps have a luxurious but relaxed atmosphere. At the end of a busy day observing wildlife guests can sink into deep sofas with a cold drink and observe the animals at dusk, or sit around the campfire under a starlit African sky and share stories from the day. Every evening, guests enjoy dining in style with delicious meals cooked on an open fire, followed by a decadent dessert.

“’Serengeti Under Canvas’ offers our travellers the ultimate combination of wildlife and wild earth, on this tour they’ll view high drama on a natural epic scale in comfort and style. Witnessing the great migration really is an experience that will stay with you forever.” Commented Mark Rawn, founder of Escapa.

Prices start from £1,250 per person for a three day safari on an all inclusive basis, excluding flights from the UK. Or take the Wildlife Treasures of Tanzania nine-day private safari including Serengeti Under Canvas from £4300 per person based on two sharing one night hotel accommodation, seven nights’ all-inclusive luxury safari accommodation, safari activities, and flights. The best time to travel to see the great migration is between July and September.

This particular itinerary is hosted by Escapa’s ground partner &Beyond. Both companies are committed to providing an ethos of “care of the land, care of the wildlife, care of the people”, and work together to contribute to preserving the wild spaces in which they operate.

“Each &Beyond lodge supports a significant wildlife estate and contributes to its' neighbouring community, having a positive impact with a model of sustainability. A key aim is to reduce the impact of wildlife tourism without compromising the guest experience.” Commented Rawn.
