Whitby business woman returns to her roots

A retired business woman from Whitby has returned to her home town after spending nine years in the Canaries by buying a luxury apartment at Kebbell Homes’ Caedmon’s Prospect development on Chubb Hill.

Sheila Fryer, who held the post of Mayor’s Consort in the 90s as well as running three shops in the town, returned to Whitby from Tenerife after her husband sadly passed away.

Initially, Mrs Fryer opted for a property at an over 55s ‘lifestyle’ development but quickly began to realise this style of living wasn’t for her.

She said, “I love Whitby; it’s where I grew up and spent most of my married life. After I was widowed it was where I wanted to come to make a fresh start.

“At first I thought the ‘lifestyle village’ was the right thing for me but I quickly came to realise that being close to Whitby itself and having complete independence was much more important.”

Mrs Fryer’s new two-bedroom apartment at Caedmon’s Prospect gives her everything she needs. It’s a five minute walk to the shops and seafront and she is able to cross over the road to Pannett Park where she is a volunteer for the Friends group every week.

Mrs Fryer continued, “I used to spend my school lunch times in Pannett Park, so it’s wonderful to be living so close to it. I know lots of people in the town and I’m perfectly placed for catching up with everyone.

“My apartment has a lovely balcony overlooking the landscaped communal areas; it’s secure and is in an excellent location.”

The development has been dubbed by residents as like living in a ‘luxury hotel’ with its impressive communal areas, high quality finishes and contemporary interiors. The homes all come with secure, undercroft parking – a unique feature of a development this close to the town centre and there are visitor spaces too.

Northern Sales Manager for Kebbell Homes, Linda Tillisch said, “Caedmon’s Prospect has become a highly sought after development and a wide range of discerning professionals as well as retired people have moved here.

“We’ve also seen a good number of customers buying an apartment as a holiday home or investment property and as a result they are selling fast.

Mrs Fryer’s work with the Friends of Pannett Park has recently led them to victory after they won a silver guilt award in the Britain in Bloom contest. Whitby itself took the top accolade in the seaside town category, affirming its position as one of the prettiest and most popular seaside resorts in the country.

The properties at Caedmon’s Prospect have proved very popular. Prices start from £169,950.

There are two show homes available for prospective purchasers to view. For more information, visit kebbell.co.uk.
