As any fashion conscious New Yorker knows UGG boots are the only way to stay warm in sub-zero winter weather. Retailing at around £215 in the UK, these cosy feet treats can be snapped up state side for just $180 – a massive £100 saving.

Must have toy, Fijit Friends is a snip at $49.99 –nearly half the price than in UK toy shops. Of course, just stepping inside the famed New York toyshop, FAO Schwarz will keep kids, large and small entertained for hours!

Discerning fashionistas, and their loved ones, will also know that Tiffany’s is the only place to go for jewellery. A sterling silver Tiffany Locks mini heart lock bracelet retails for $125 – more than £20 cheaper than in the UK.

Look like a celebrity and stock up on some luxury beauty products from Creme de la Mer, where a lip plumping balm is only £28 – a third of the UK cost!

Techie trendsetters can even be the first to pick up the new Amazon Kindle Fire which has not yet been given a release date in the UK but is set to fly off shelves in the US in time for Christmas. At just $199, that’s a high tech saving of £100.

As well as bagging a bargain on festive favourites, shoppers will also be able to stock up on American brands like American Eagle Outfitters and J-Crew that are still unavailable on British shores. Plus the annual Union Square Christmas Market is worth a trip to find some more unusual gems perfect for last minute stocking fillers.

With Christmas presents picked, there’s plenty to do to sprinkle some festive family fun on the trip. From catching a spectacular show like Spiderman or Mary Poppins on Broadway, to gliding on ice skates around Central Park and finishing with a visit to the 75ft Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Centre, families will certainly feel Christmas has come early!
