Taylor Wimpey helps local first time buyers onto the property ladder

When first time buyers Christopher Preston and his partner Samantha Jones started looking for their first property together they were horrified by the huge deposit that was required on the open market.

But their despair didn’t last for long once they visited Taylor Wimpey North West’s Watermill Gardens development in Bromborough. Here they discovered they could buy their dream home for just a fraction of the deposit they expected, and just a few months later they have moved in.

Christopher (24) and Samantha (23) bought a three bedroom Hemsworth using the house builder’s Easystart* shared equity scheme.

Christopher said: “This is our first home and as we’ve both been living with our parents it’s a really exciting move for us. We looked on the open market but there was no way we could afford the deposit which was around £25,000 for the type of house we wanted and totally unrealistic.

“We found out that Taylor Wimpey was building Watermill Gardens in our ideal location on the Wirral, right in-between our parent’s homes. We went and looked around the show home and talked to the team about the shared equity schemes they could offer. Using Easystart meant that we could secure a new home with a deposit of just 5%. We then only needed to secure a mortgage on 80% of the property with Taylor Wimpey lending us the remaining 15%, interest free over ten years.

“We made the decision to buy at Watermill Gardens really quickly and using the scheme meant we could afford a three bedroom home in our ideal location. We couldn’t be happier.”

The couple chose their new home off plan and selected the tiles and kitchen design they wanted before it was built.

Christopher adds: “It’s a brilliant way to buy a home because you get an input into its interior finish. There has been no hassle at all and the whole process has gone really smoothly. Sam’s dad is a decorator and has put the finishing touches in like the laminate floor. All we’re waiting for now is the delivery of our new sofa then it’s really going to feel like home.”

Stephen Grant, regional sales manager for Taylor Wimpey North West, said: “It’s lovely to see our first residents moving into their new home here at Watermill Gardens and we’re delighted that Christopher and Samantha have been able to buy through our shared equity scheme. Making the first move onto the property ladder is tough, but this scheme can give you a helping hand, making home ownership a real possibility. If you’re stuck living with parents or throwing your money away on rent, why not come and visit the team at Watermill Gardens and see whether we can help you buy your first home.”

Watermill Gardens is a development of 86 homes, including two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom homes. Prices start at £97,950 (or from as little as £78,360 through FirstBuy*, the latest scheme on offer at Watermill Gardens).
