Planning a hen party in 2012? Stick to the UK

3rd January 2012 Print

We often forget about all of the great things the UK has to offer, and what better way to spend your hen party than enjoying the country that you are from, rather than rushing off to a foreign country and probably leaving behind a few people that cannot make it.

Below we have listed 3 hen party ideas for the UK, depending on what time of year you are celebrating

1. Winter: Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a magical and beautiful location with so much to offer any visitor. Begin by having brunch at Harvey Nichols and toast the hen with some champagne, the restaurant has a glass wall where you get an excellent view over the city. After this you could take a stroll along the Royal Mile and muse around the shops. You could take one of the historic ghost tours that the city is famous for and learn about the history of Edinburgh. Many companies offer bespoke tailored tours designed for hen parties, so it is worth doing a bit of research before.

For evening fun, the options are endless. A great place to go and eat is the boutique hotel Tigerlily, you can reserve their booth tables and they go out of their way to make sure your party is happy. After this, conveniently located downstairs is the club Lulu, where you and your party can dance the night away.

If you are staying overnight then you may want to take an adventurous climb up Arthur’s Seat to try and blast away the hangover.

The options are endless but there is definitely a reason why this is a very popular choice of destination for hen parties.

2. Spring: Cheltenham

Famous for its discovery of springs and love of horseracing, Cheltenham Spa town is the place to go for an indulgent hen weekend soaking up the atmosphere and perhaps enjoying a flutter on the horses at Cheltenham festival.

Noted as some of the finest examples of Regency architecture, the city offers numerous bars, restaurants and cafes in elegant buildings overlooking green gardens.

Great Hen party ideas include heading to Cheltenham festival, a high point in the calendar, with racing weekend hen nights. The highlight of the festival is the Cheltenham Gold Cup, this is the event that everyone looks forward to and is not to be missed. These events are incredibly popular during this time so you should book early to avoid disappointment.

You can also head out of town and before long you’ll be at the rolling hills of the Cotswolds where fun hen weekend activities can be tried. City-based activities are also available if you’d rather keep your Cheltenham hen weekend based entirely in this beautiful historic city.

3. Summer: Cornwall

Newquay is the surf capital of the UK and an ideal place for hen parties.

Book a bespoke surf trip where you and your friends can spend an afternoon in wetsuits laughing at each other’s attempts to stand up.

Or perhaps for the really adventurous types, you may want to go Coasteering. Coasteering is an exhilarating combined rock and water activity, and many companies in Cornwall offer private trips with just you and your group.

Again, Newquay is famed for its party atmosphere and there's a great selection of exciting bars, themed restaurants and a buzzing club scene, so the choices are endless.
