The Co-operative Pet Insurance offers first two months free

4th January 2012 Print

With many families feeling the pinch post-Christmas, The Co-operative Pet Insurance has announced that for a limited time all new pet insurance customers will benefit from an immediate payment holiday with the first two months of cover free.

January is historically the peak month for pet owners to take out insurance for their animals, especially as many families for welcome new pets into their home over the Christmas period, just at the time when finances are stretched.

To help customers keep control of their finances, whilst ensuring their cat or dog is covered against accident and illness, The Co-operative Insurance is offering all new customers who buy their pet insurance policy online their first two months free.

The offer begins on 4 January and ends on 30 March. On average dog owners will save £35.56 and cat owners £17.78 by making the most of the offer.

Customers who pay their premiums by direct debit will only begin paying in the third month of the policy whilst those who pay annually will pay the equivalent of 10 months in a single up front payment.

Lee Mooney, Head of Pet Insurance at The Co-operative Insurance, said: "Pet insurance is one of the items that can easily fall down the priority list - especially when money is tighter just after the festive break.

"However, if a pet was to fall ill or become injured the cost to an owner without insurance could run into hundreds, or even thousands of pounds, to get the pets well again.

"We have devised our offer, where customers who take out insurance between January to March begin to pay for it two months later and only pay 10 months premiums for 12 months cover, to give a helping hand to those owners who are feeling the pinch.

"Ensuring a pet can access veterinary treatment if it needs to is an integral part of being a pet owner and all potential owners should consider if they can afford to insure an animal prior to bringing it into the family home.

"We hope that this offer will encourage owners, who may have not considered insuring their pet due to money worries, to do so now."

Two types of cover are available:

The Classic cover option is designed for pet owners looking for essential cover for their pet and pays out up to £2,000 for any illness or injury sustained for 12 months after the condition is first identified.
The Select Plus option offers a more comprehensive insurance where each new illness or injury is covered throughout the pets life, regardless of age or how long the condition lasts - as long as the policy is renewed each year.

Policyholders have the option to add on optional bundles:

The Additional Benefits bundle covers a range of eventualities such as holiday cancellation and loss, theft or straying of the pet.
The Pet Travel bundle covers emergency vet's fees, emergency repatriation and quarantine expenses.
Prices start from £10.91 per month for dog cover and £6.45 for cat cover.
