PruHealth launches package making it cheaper to get healthy

24th January 2012 Print

PruHealth has improved its pioneering Vitality wellness programme with the launch of a new raft of partners providing significant discounts and benefits, making it easier to get fitter and healthier for less money.  Annual savings of up to £1,355 are available for those with its lowest level Bronze Vitality status.  This means its health insurance could pay for itself with average annual premiums costing around £898.

Neville Koopowitz, CEO of PruHealth commented: "Although it is important to have the peace of mind that you will receive the best and quickest treatment when you are sick, many want to see immediate benefits and value for money for their premiums even if they don't claim.  We enable you to earn Vitality points for doing healthy activities and make significant savings off a range of products and services in the process.  The more you look after yourself, the bigger the benefits and discounts, which can amount to more than the cost of your private medical insurance premiums.

"Therefore, as well as the clear heath benefits we provide financial benefits by helping you keep your insurance costs down and save money.  Through your Vitality points you can earn up to 20% of your premiums as cash back, up to £1355 annual savings off a range of products and services, in addition to a no claims discount if you are healthy and don't make any claims."

When asked what they would be most likely to do if they had an extra £1,000, new PruHealth research reveals that most people (25%) would get away from it all and go on holiday.  This was followed by topping up their savings (14%) or putting it towards their mortgage or clearing other debts (14%).  Some (5%) would go on a family day out.

Vitality is PruHealth's proven wellness programme that allows members to get and stay healthy through a range of tools and discounts such as 50% off LA Fitness and Virgin Active gym membership. To help lower the barriers to getting healthy, its new health partners include: adidas, The National Trust, Sweatshop, Sainsbury's Pharmacy, Sainsbury's Diets and Laureus motivational training. To motivate people to get healthy, its new reward partners include:  a number of major holiday operators with the Vitality Travel Club in partnership with Thomas Cook (up to 25%), Imagine Cruising covering many major cruise lines (with discounts of up to 50%), new entertainment benefits with discounts through Merlin family days out and discounted tickets to live events such as sports events, concerts and shows (around 30%), plus 50% off mobile plans with Vodafone to help members stay in touch.

By taking advantage of all the discounts available, an average individual member with bronze Vitality status (the lowest level) could save up to £1,355.13 a year and a member with platinum status (the highest level) up to £1,808.73 a year. By using PruHealth's online Vitality calculator anyone can calculate how much they might save in their first year, based on the partners they are most likely to use by visiting pruhealth.co.uk.

Dr Katie Tryon, head of clinical Vitality at PruHealth adds: "In this challenging climate many people are tightening their purse strings and cutting back.  We are making sure consumers of all ages are well rewarded by enabling them to live a healthier life and continue to do the things they love by making them more affordable."

The Vitality Wellness Programme is also available to PruProtect customers.
