Do you have the white cover for skiing?

31st January 2012 Print

Holiday makers are being urged to take out adequate winter sports cover as recent reports reveal that one in five skiers and snowboarders is considering travelling without insurance.

With the cost of treating a broken leg being an average of £1,100 in Europe and £9,000 in North America, the financial recovery can be just as painful as the physical injury; and these costs do not include being airlifted off the mountain, ambulance transfers or cost of medication.

Even the most common injuries, such as sprains, torn ligaments and fractures, can entail steep medical bills. The cost of treatment in Europe is likely to be less daunting than in the US, but it could still prove substantial.

Kieran Murphy, Managing Director of Barclays Insurance said: "Even experienced winter sports enthusiasts can have an accident so it is essential to check you have adequate travel insurance in place so you don't get hurt financially too."

Barclays offers three levels of cover so you get the right insurance for you. It's simple to choose and takes just a few minutes to apply - giving you more time to plan your trip.

Even better, Barclays multi-trip insurance is our most comprehensive policy, giving you extended medical expenses cover and Independent Traveller cover for unexpected events such as airline failure and other travel disruption.

For a limited time only, get a £15 voucher for Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports when taking out or renewing a multi-trip policy with winter sports cover 1 2.

Barclays Insurance offers the choice of three levels of cover - Travel Essentials, Travel and Travel Plus - with Travel and Travel Plus available with the added option of including winter sports cover. This enables customers to tailor the policy depending on where in the world they are travelling and to provide cover for the whole family, a couple or just an individual at a cost to meet their budget.

Barclays winter sports option provides cover for:

Up to £500 coverage for lost or damaged ski equipment (including hired equipment)
Up to £300 to hire replacement equipment if this is damaged or lost
Up to £400 for unused, pre-paid ski pack costs if you are injured or taken ill
Up to £300 for piste closure, including up to £30 per day for transport costs to another resort

Customers purchasing a Barclays Annual Multi-Trip policy with winter sports cover before 30 April 2012 (online, on the phone or in branch) will automatically qualify for a £15 Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports voucher.

Barclays Travel Insurance premiums with Winter Sports coverage can be brought for as little as £33.37 for an individual or £53.33 for a family of four skiing in Europe for two weeks.
