Anyone for Mexican? Tortilla to launch restaurant in Wimbledon

13th February 2012 Print

Forget strawberries and cream – this March, Tortilla are bringing Mexican cuisine to the good people of SW19.  Serving up the restaurant’s signature chicken, steak, pork and vegetarian burritos and tacos, it’ll be authentic, fresh – and tastier than a Federer backhand.

Situated on The Broadway, this will be Tortilla’s first new location following a £3.5 million investment from private equity from Quilvest – with plans to open 25 more sites across the UK within the next few years.  And it will be Tortilla’s eighth restaurant, with sites already in Islington, Southwark, Oxford Circus, Canary Wharf, Leadenhall Market, Hammersmith and Westfield Stratford.

The new restaurant will have an open kitchen, bringing guests closer to the action and letting them see just how fresh the ingredients are.  Fresh, and good – all sauces are made on site and all ingredients are carefully sourced, including barn-reared chicken, Quality-Assured steak and outdoor-reared, Farm-Assured pork.

Tortilla was founded by managing director Brandon Stephens, after being inspired by the neighbourhood taquerias of Los Angeles and San Francisco, back in his native California.  Why shouldn’t Londoners get to enjoy the same affordable, authentic, top quality Mexican food, too?  And with that, Tortilla was born, the first restaurant opening its doors in October 2007.  Since then Tortilla has become the UK’s biggest burrito & taco chain and has built a reputation as one of the capital’s most exciting restaurant groups – in the 2011 results of the Peach Business Leaders Survey, Tortilla was named ‘one to watch’.

Brandon Stephens said: ‘We’re very excited about the launch of Wimbledon, it’s a great location and we’re hoping this will be just the beginning of another brilliant year for Tortilla’.
