Major savings for home owners who commute

With the cost of crossing the Humber Bridge set to be slashed by half, shrewd home buyers could save even more by living south of the river crossing.

House prices in towns like Barton-upon-Humber are significantly lower than places like Brough and Beverley, but home buyers may previously have been put off by the cost of crossing the bridge every day if they work in Hull or York.

But with the cost of a single trip across the bridge due to reduce to £1.50 in April, owning a home in Barton is suddenly much more attractive.

Patsy Aicken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), said: “According to the website home.co.uk the average cost of a two-bedroom home in somewhere like Brough is around £170,000. We’re selling a two-bedroom Evesham at our Fox’s Fold development in Barton for just £104,999. After April, you could make a return trip across the bridge 21,666 times for the difference in price – that’s 60 years’ worth of trips!”

And as new homes are designed to be more energy efficient than their older second hand counterparts, owners of a brand new Redrow home should also be able to look forward to saving money on their fuel bills.

“For those who buy at Fox’s Fold it’s a win, win, situation,” says Patsy. “They can buy a lovely new home from our sought-after New Heritage Collection at an extremely competitive price; the cost of commuting will be less in the near future and their brand new home will be more economical to run.

“They will also benefit from living close to some beautiful countryside and in a friendly market town, which boasts a traditional high street full of locally owned shops. There are three primary schools within one mile of Fox’s Fold and places to explore in the town include Baysgarth House Museum, the historic Anglo-Saxon St Peter’s Church, the Ropewalk Contemporary Art & Craft Centre and the Waters’ Edge Visitor Centre with its 86-acre country park.”

Redrow’s New Heritage Collection homes at Fox’s Fold boast ‘Arts & Crafts’ inspired exteriors and bright, modern interiors with convivial open plan living spaces, quality fixtures and fittings and integrated appliances.

There are two, three and four-bedroom homes available, currently from £104,999 to £196,999. Part exchange may be available for those with an existing property to sell, meaning they can use their current property as part-payment for a brand new Redrow home.
