Commenting on Carphone Warehouse results, Jason Lloyd, head of broadband at moneysupermarket.com, said: "These latest results from Carphone Warehouse are strong and ahead of market expectations.


People in rural areas are effectively classed as ‘second class citizens’ in the eyes of the broadband operators, according to independent price comparison and switching service uSwitch.com.


As another broadband company introduces an extra charge for customers living outside their unbundling domain, uSwitch.com reveals a new broadband class war as customers are increasingly penalised for living in the ‘wrong’ area.


The Post Office will launch a broadband service later this year under a strategic partnership with BT Wholesale.


Commenting on BT's yearly results, Jason Lloyd, head of broadband at moneysupermarket.com, said: "BT's £2.5 billion share buy back will dominate the headlines, but for me the main story is BT regaining top spot as the largest provider of broadband services in the UK.


With 3.7 million broadband customers, BT is in pole position to win the broadband race.


BT has announced that fourth-quarter profit rose 16 percent, with net income rising to £454 million. BT has also overtaken Virgin Media as the UK’s largest broadband provider – BT now has 3.66 million subscribers.


Virgin Media, the UK's second-largest pay-television operator, posted a quarterly loss of £15.3m after subscribers defected to Sky and the company lost telephone customers.


ITV ITV has unveiled the new itv.com as the most comprehensive commercial website offered by any major broadcaster in the world.


Karen Darby, founder of SimplySwitch.com, the price comparison and switching service, comments: "Sky's bundle packages have proven popular with customers. However, anyone thinking of signing up should bear in mind that, though reasonably priced, Sky's home phone and broadband offers are only available to Sky TV subscribers.


Following the overwhelming consumer response to uSwitch.com’s call to ban the term ‘unlimited’ broadband unless it truly has no limits, the Internet Services Providers’ Association, ISPA UK, has added its weight to the campaign by urging its members to use the term ‘unlimited broadband’ in their advertising with caution.
