The Volkswagen Group has taken its place among the world’s top three automakers thanks to the Wolfsburg-based company’s outstanding delivery figures in the first half of 2008. Rival Ford had to settle for fourth position.
The Volkswagen Group delivered 3.79 million vehicles worldwide (+5.0 percent) from January to July 2008, more than ever before for the first seven months of a year. In July 2008, the Group delivered 521,500 vehicles worldwide, on a par with the prior-year level despite an automotive market that remained slow.

The Volkswagen Group delivered 3.27 million vehicles worldwide (+5.8 percent) from January to June 2008, the highest figure ever for the first six months of a year.
The Volkswagen Group again significantly improved its operating profit in the first six months of the current fiscal year. At €3.4 billion, the Group's operating profit exceeded the prior-year figure by 21.8 percent.
The Volkswagen Group has received the antitrust approvals necessary to acquire a majority voting stake in Swedish truck manufacturer Scania AB. The majority voting stake is expected to be acquired on July 22, 2008.
