Job Description
Our client is searching for a DBA to establish and maintain a secure, reliable, efficient database environment to support the company business requirements. To undertake database and application development as required to support the business and to provide support and maintenance of these and other corporate applications.
Key Responsibilities / Activities
• Provide day-to-day administration and support of database systems to ensure they support the requirements for data access and applications of key business functions.
• Build database applications to meet business requirements, gathering user requirements, designing and implementing logical and physical data models, and programming user interfaces and outputs and to provide ongoing support and maintenance of these applications.
• Define and implement and monitor appropriate backup and recovery procedures to ensure that, in the event of systems failure or other disasters affecting systems availability, impact on the continuity of the business is minimised.
• Monitor systems performance, diagnose performance problems and carry out remedial action.
• Plan for, test and implement new versions of database and systems software.
• Undertake development of database queries, scripts, stored procedures and triggers to support business and user requirements.
• Provide second-level support for business applications to diagnose and resolve user or system problems, and to ensure knowledge transfer to those responsible for first-line support to enable them to perform their role effectively.
• Provide a centre of expertise in relational database design and programming for colleagues.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation on systems and contribute to departmental knowledge resources.
Experience / Qualifications Requirements
Essential
• 5+ knowledge and experience of principles of database design/management
• MS SQL Enterprise experience
• MS 2005 Analysis services experience
• Panorama experience
• Oracle BI
• Oracle Enterprise experience
• Previous experience with Solaris and ORACLE technologies and online real-time high volume financial transaction application systems
• Extremely well developed analytical and problem solving skills.
• Intimate understanding of the business processes, products and services and of how databases systems support these and an awareness of opportunities for how this might be developed and enhanced.
• ITIL Foundation
• Degree level education
• Significant vocational experience (backed up by formal training)
• Demonstrated 5+ years previous experience in fields of Capacity and Availability management
• Certified Web Logic Administrator
Desirable
• ITSM Manager Service Support / Service Delivery
• Prince2 Foundation
• Oracle OCP Certified
• MSSQL DBA Certified
• Incident / Problem management experience
• Service Level and Service Continuity management/consultancy/specialization experience
• Analysis and Decision Making Certification Professional.
• Documentation / process writing skills
• Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge and experience of principles of database design/management.
• Expert specific knowledge of Oracle database technology including, Linux, UNIX, SQL Server and Microsoft operating environment and broad technical understanding of all the technology layers in a complex environment.
• Extremely well developed analytical and problem solving skills.
• Intimate understanding of the business processes, products and services and of how databases systems support these and an awareness of opportunities for how this might be developed and enhanced.
• Certified Solaris Administrator
