Job Description
Our client is searching for a Technical Operations Manager to be responsible for managing the Technical Operations Team comprising System and Application Specialists, Network & Security Engineers, Database Administrators and IT Operations Specialists. To create an environment of proactive improvements to increase the level of support and system availability. To manage and mentor staff within the team to the direction of the Group IT Operations Manager. Ensure the team performs and reports on System Administration tasks, responds to 2nd level support within agreed policy, implements monitoring and sufficient system logging and debugging as well as automated system alerting to the Group NOC with agreed and documented processes for resolution or escalation. Liaise with System Architects, Developers and 3rd party vendors as required.

• Mentor and manage the Team to the direction of the Group IT Operations Manager to maximise system availability.
• Ensure the Production environment is monitored effectively.
• Ensure the UAT environment is secure and reflects the Production environment.
• Ensure that Production incidents are responded to, undertaking root cause analysis and debugging to resolve problems.
• Assist with Incident and Problem Management ensuring that the business is kept up-to-date with progress via the NOC.
• Work with Architects, Developers, 3rd Party specialists and vendors to determine fixes or develop patches/remedial actions to resolve problems.
• Endeavour to resolve problems raised by business (via the NOC) as quickly, accurately and completely as possible with a view to minimise outstanding support incidents to zero.
• Create/compile, verify, and continually revise/improve support processes and related documentation.
• Liaise with other Business Departments and 3rd party vendors continually to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Act upon requests for service from IT and the Business as quickly and accurately as possible.
• Ensure that clear work instructions for both network and system monitoring and troubleshooting/resolution are published to the NOC.
• Identify personnel for mentoring and cross-training within Technical Operations and other IT Departments.
• Identify training plans or career paths that support all systems effectively and actions from outages are implemented quickly and efficiently.
• Deploy all upgrades, patches and fixes to products and services running in the Production environment via Change and Configuration Management.
• Evaluate capacity requirement, formulate plans and designs and implement as per agreed standards
• Ability to work within and add value to a structured standards base (eg.ITIL) working environment.
• Accurately define the required technical resources for projects within a multi-disciplined environment ensuring agreed project work is executed on time and to an appropriate quality standard and produce comparisons to fine tune the Project Management process.
• Ensure that every project delivery by the Company is documented, handed over, monitored to an appropriate level of detail.
• Be proactive in looking at ways to continually improve business systems and procedures.

Essential

• M.Sc or B.Sc in IT or Computing or equivalent work experience
• Proven experience working in a multi-platform environment including: -
o Solaris/Linux
o ORACLE/PostgreSQL/Sybase/MS-SQL Server
o Apache
o Weblogic/J2EE/Tomcat/Glassfish experience
o Windows 2003
o SAN/NAS/DAS and Clustering technologies
o Routing Protocols (BGP/OSPF both Cisco and Juniper)
o Switching (Trunks/VLANs)
o Cisco VoIP solutions
o VPN Technology
o Firewall Technology
o F5 Devices (BigIP/Traffic Manager/3DNS)

• ITIL Practitioner or equal experience.
• Prince2 Foundation and/or Project Management experience.
• ITIL experience, minimum Incident/Problem/Change/Configuration/Release.
• 3+ years minimum technical/support team management experience.
• Business / Technical Analysis skills
• 5+ years experience in the field of IT support management preferably within a high volume financial transaction or ISP environment.
• Proven Management track record especially regarding multi-disciplined teams.
• Programming experience, preferably C++ and/or Java
• The role holder must have an analytical, trouble-shooting mindset coupled with the ability to manage staff and contribute to projects.
• Experience with SOE (Standard Operation Environment) desktop build, deployment, and support management.
• Documentation / process writing skills.

Desirable

A background in system integration, configuration and maintenance is highly preferable.
