Job Description
Our client is searching for a System Architect to perform the following functions
THE ROLE:
• Business enabling projects. Provide system installation, configuration guidelines on systems implementations. Act as the technical owner of allocated business critical systems.
• Integrate layered web and DB backend application solutions from 3rd parties to be handed over to the Technical Operations team.
• Provide IT technical expertise to applications developers, operations, and other IT staff for systems development, deployment, installation and production support.
• Provide expert technical consulting to the Group in the design, development of infrastructure systems to ensure a robust and stable environment.
• Participate in formulating and implementing IT standards and policies to support the operational environment and business direction.
• Develop all supporting technical documentation to agree standards and to facilitate consistency and quality of installations, systems upgrades and recovery/ repair.
• Develop and implement processes to assist with Capacity Planning, Availability Management, performance tuning to support effective operational management.
• Ensure the application of best practice with regard to implementation of layered systems products across Group system infrastructure.
• Design, implement and provide continual improvements to new and existing hardware platforms and their operating environments to support ongoing business change and strategy.
• Design and implement solutions that ensure capacity planning, performance, scalability, and availability are managed according to agreed standards.
• Advise and assist with the operation of third level support Systems support / Monitoring tools in order to maintain Group systems.
• Out of hours availability for 3rd level Escalation of production issues per the Escalation Policy
Ensure that developed application have an agreed level of monitoring and logging which is consistent throughout company systems and agreed with IT and the business
THE PERSON:
Essential
• At least 8 years experience designing and implementing Linux and Solaris operating environments – in heterogeneous environments.
• At least 5 years experience in designing and implementing layer application products such as Apache, Tomcat, MySQL, Nagios, Active MQ, Informatica, Panorama.
• At least 5 years experience designing and implementing clustering technologies (Solaris Sun Clustering)
• At least 3 years designing and implementing Windows Infrastructure, IIS, Active Directory, Exchange
• At least 3 years working with SAN technologies (Netapp, EMC) technologies and support of same.
• At least 3 year designing and implementing backup solutions including Netbackup backup/recovery systems
• Effective understanding of RDBMS systems, Security and Networking.
• 2 years experience of utilizing virtualization technologies
• Up to date knowledge of SUN server platforms
• Demonstrated tolerance to high workloads and multiple changing priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to solve problems and issues at all levels.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritise work load.
• Actively researching current IT issues and technology.
• Demonstrated documentation skills
• Provide effective support, policy, and procedures documentation.
• Understand and drive initiatives to support change control and Capacity planning and operational integrity.
• Conceive and develop effective systems to proactively support and manage business operations.
• Advanced working knowledge of word processor, pc database, and spreadsheet packages
• High degree of competency in using diagramming tools to effectively present complex technical environments
• Work within a team of solutions developers integrating systems and applications.
Desirable
• Computer Science/IT related university degree
• Working knowledge of IT and quality international standards.
• Exposure to support and development methodologies for large RDBMS (Oracle)
• Exposure to project management methodologies and software.
• Demonstrated experience in Oracle database administration and reporting/application analysis.
• Solaris 10 Administrator SCSA
• Microsoft Certification MCSE
• NetApp certification NCDA
Salary is £55k - 60k
