Bleak House Launched On DVD

9th November 2006 Print
Bleak House On DVD The award winning BBC drama adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Bleak House will be available to buy online in Special Edition DVD format from next Monday.

Boasting an all star cast including Gillian Anderson, Denis Lawson, Charles Dance, Anna Maxwell Martin, Alistair McGowan, Pauline Collins, Johnny Vegas and many more, this ground-breaking multi-award winning adaptation of one of Dickens' most celebrated novels is by the renowned writer Andrew Davies (Pride & Prejudice, The Way We Live Now, Vanity Fair) and producer Nigel Stafford-Clark (Warriors, The Way We Live Now, He Knew He Was Right).

The Bleak House Special Edition DVD comes complete with a host of special features, in stunning new packaging, and is available to buy on DVD from November 13th 2006, as a three disc set, priced £24.99.

Arguably the greatest ever depiction of Victorian London, Bleak House is at heart a thrilling murder mystery. Central to the plot is the infamous court case of Jarndyce v Jarndyce, which brings nothing but ruin and despair to all it touches, yet when concluded could make someone rich beyond imagination.

Televised in Autumn 2005 at primetime on BBC One, Bleak House achieved magnificent viewing figures of up to nine million (including the Sunday omnibus) and has since gone on to win numerous awards including Best Drama Serial at the 2006 BAFTA and Royal Television Society Awards, the Best Actress BAFTA Award for Anna Maxwell Martin and has been nominated for ten Emmy Awards. The drama was adapted as a 15-part story, using the pace, multiple storylines and cliff-hanger endings more usually associated with popular drama, echoing the way in which Charles Dickens originally published the story in 19 monthly installments.

The Bleak House Special Edition DVD contains each episode as it was transmitted, plus over an hour of exclusive interviews with stars Gillian Anderson, Charles Dance and Denis Lawson, commentaries with the writer Andrew Davies, producer Nigel Stafford-Clark and the two directors Justin Chadwick and Susanna White, and an extensive stills gallery.
