Former amateur footballer, Paul Lancaster, is celebrating the World Cup in style after winning a high-performance Subaru Impreza worth over £28,000.

Paul, 36, a civil servant from Penrith, Cumbria, used his soccer know-how by entering the ‘Daily Telegraph’s ‘Fantasy Football’ competition – sponsored by Subaru (UK) Limited.

He tackled his way through the weekly rounds before ending up with 10 other football finalists with an eye for a winning team.

Then came the penalty shoot-out when his name was plucked out of a hat, winning the Subaru of his choice.

He said: "It was a condition of the competition that we had to take a test drive which, being a Subaru, was no hardship at all. In fact I tried both the standard Impreza WRX and the WRX STI and both were sensational."

Paul, whose normal car is a company Renault Clio, added: "I plumped for the limited-edition Impreza spec.D and can’t stop driving it. I keep inventing trips just to enjoy its performance and handling."

The winning car was supplied by his local dealer, Carlisle-based Stan Palmer Limited.
