Airline hands over free car to travel agent

The winner of the first car in a travel agent promotion by low cost airline Jet2.com has been presented to the lucky travel agent, Vanessa Hewitson, from Freedom Direct in Newcastle.
The airline launched a competition to the travel trade in September 2007 where the ABTA-registered travel agent selling the most flights and holidays to the Canary Islands, and registering them at Jet2.com/canarycar, would win a brand new car.
Vanessa, 30, was the travel agent with the most sales between September and December and wins a brand new Peugeot 207, entirely free of charge courtesy of agent friendly low cost airline Jet2.com.
The airline has a second win-a-car competition now underway for the UK travel agent who sells the most flights and holidays to the Canary Islands before 31st March 2008 – full details at Jet2.com/canarycar.
Phil Ward, Passenger Services Director of Jet2.com, who presented Vanessa with her car in Newcastle, said: “Jet2.com is really keen to work closely with travel agents in the UK and we like to think of ourselves as the agent friendly low cost airline.
“I am delighted to be able to hand over this brand new car to Vanessa for being the top selling agent in the country and wish her many happy miles of motoring, and of course continued success in selling our flights and holidays!”
Vanessa, who has worked in the travel industry for 14 years, said: “I have worked in travel industry all my life and I’ve never won anything. And then this week I had a win on a Premium Bond and now I’ve won a car – I’ll be doing the lottery next week!
“It’s so good as I won’t be relying on my husband as a taxi anymore and I might even give my colleague Andrea Lowthian a lift – she wasn’t far behind me in the competition so she might be a bit jealous.
“This is the highlight of my last 12 months and Jet2.com is definitely my favourite airline.”
