Jet2.com unites French and Yorkshire wine specialists

In what may seem like an unlikely combination, Jet2.com has introduced leading French sommelier, Francois Marcou, to wines from its very own region at an event to build links with Avignon and Yorkshire.
The meeting between Francois Marcou and Yorkshire’s own sommelier, Peter Hopkins, was spurred by the launch of Jet2.com’s new route from Leeds Bradford to Avignon – home of the famous Chateauneuf du Pape wine – and is aimed at increasing tourism between the two regions.
During an evening of wine tasting and French canapés, Avignon’s finest wine specialist, sampled five wines from the Côtes du Rhône region to really show why the French have their reputation for good food, wine and hospitality.
In return, Yorkshire sommelier and former ‘Sommelier of the Year’, Peter Hopkins shared his expertise in local wine, straight from a vineyard on the borders of Leeds itself!

“We are extremely pleased to welcome the visitors from Avignon to give us a taste of what the area has to offer. It was a great opportunity for both sommeliers to join together to share expertise and sample each others wines.
“I’m sure that the new route from Leeds Bradford to Avignon will be extremely successful – especially if the food and wine that we tasted this evening has anything to go by!”
Jet2.com will be flying from Leeds Bradford to Avignon three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday). Fares start from £19.99 (one-way including taxes).
