Are you stuck in a renting rut and throwing hundreds of pounds away each month into the pockets of your landlord? Then why not take advantage of Taylor Wimpey’s Newbuy scheme and follow in the footsteps of one young couple from Bristol.

Joanna Wadman and Stuart Catto were previously renting their two bedroom flat when they heard about Taylor Wimpey’s first time buyers initiative. After looking around various housing developments in Portishead, the couple found their dream first home at Altus.

Joanna explains: “We were fed up of renting as we knew it was dead money and when we heard that we could get a 5% deposit, we just had to take advantage of it as we didn’t know if an opportunity like this would come around again. We both wanted to live around Portishead Marina so we spent a lot of time visiting the various different developments on offer, but it was Taylor Wimpey’s development that we liked the best.

“The apartments and room sizes were a lot bigger than the others and the fixtures and fittings seemed to be better quality. I loved that the apartment lounge was so big you could separate it into a lounge and dining room. Most importantly for us was that the Altus development was by far better value for money than the other developers and it made our move a lot more affordable.

“The sales consultant on sight was really helpful and took us through the whole buying process. Buying a property was new to both of us, so we are glad there was someone who could guide us through it. We have now brought a beautiful two bedroom apartment and we can’t wait to move in. The development is lovely and we are right by the sea and close to work, we couldn’t have asked for any more. If it wasn’t for the 5% deposit scheme, we would have never been able to move so quickly.”

NewBuy, available on brand new properties up to the value of £500,000, means that credit-worthy first time buyers may now only need to save a 5% deposit before they can get on the property ladder. Home movers with limited equity in their existing house will also benefit from the increase in availability of 95% loan to value mortgages.

Taylor Wimpey’s Altus development is currently offering three bedroom apartments and four bedroom houses from £229,995, requiring a £11,499 deposit using the NewBuy scheme.

Altus is situated in Portishead Marina just minutes away from a traditional Victorian high street, hosting a range of shops to suit all tastes, while the city of Bristol is just ten miles away.
