With a time ‘window’ of only two hours before concrete starts to set, reliable vehicles are essential to Britain’s largest, privately-owned pumping company – which explains why Camfaud puts its trust in Mercedes-Benz.

Not only does the Essex-based operator mount its German-built Putzmeister and Schwing pumps on truck chassis bearing the three-pointed star, but it also sends out its mobile maintenance technicians in Mercedes-Benz Vito vans.

Camfaud’s five Vito service vans are all based at its headquarters in Epping. The latest to be supplied by Hatfield dealer S & B Commercials is its third Long-bodied Vito 113CDI – the other two vans are 111CDIs from the previous model range.

Specified with optional air conditioning, the new arrival is also fitted with a tow bar and additional rear lighting, while the back doors are finished with high visibility marking strips that meet Chapter 8 Highways Maintenance rules. Like Camfaud’s other vans, it is also fitted with a vehicle tracking system that allows the company to keep its customers updated on arrival times, as well as helping to deter thieves.

Camfaud Director Peter Faud said: “Ours is a time-critical business so we need equipment that won’t let us down. We choose Mercedes-Benz truck chassis because they have proved over time to be man enough for the job, and the same is true of our vans.”

He continued: “The Vito is outstandingly reliable, which is critical given the service commitments that we give to our customers. It is also very comfortable for our technicians to drive and an ideal size for our operation.

“The new 113CDI is a big improvement on the previous model too, with running costs that are highly competitive thanks in no small measure to the excellent mpg returns.”

The Euro 5 Vito 113CDI is powered by a state-of-the-art, 2.1-litre, four-cylinder engine that produces 136hp and 310Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the road via a smooth and flexible six-speed manual gearbox called ECO-Gear, which helps to maximise fuel economy.

Camfaud purchases its Vito vans with support from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. The latest is the subject of a Mercedes-Benz ServicePackage (terms & conditions apply) covering all labour, materials and lubricants required in routine servicing at an official Mercedes-Benz workshop for up to five years or 60,000 miles, whichever is reached first. Like all Mercedes-Benz Vito and Sprinter van models, it also came with a market-leading, three-year, unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty.

Mr Faud added: “We have built up an excellent relationship with S & B Commercials, whose workshop team provide a great service.”

Camfaud is a family business founded 30 years with a single mobile concrete pump. Today, it operates a fleet of more than 40 units, including a 60-tonne, six-axled Mercedes-Benz Actros 6560 flagship which carries a giant Putzmeister pump capable of placing 160 cubic metres of concrete an hour through its 66/63-metre boom.

As well as its Epping headquarters, Camfaud has depots in Nottinghamshire, West Midlands, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Kent and West Sussex from which it serves customers located throughout London and the Home Counties, East Anglia and the Midlands.
