Forgotten holiday items

19th July 2012 Print

Brits spend an estimated £118 million a year on forgotten holiday items, as nearly half (41 per cent) of us forget to pack one item per holiday.

A study by Viking River Cruises reveals that nearly 15 million holiday essentials are left behind each year, as the nation suffer from ‘suitcase haste’, being too busy or stressed to pack properly in the lead up to a holiday.

Whilst we’re forgetting essentials such as shoes (27 per cent), mobile phone chargers (25 per cent) and sun cream (13 per cent) people surprisingly find space for some British home comforts. The study found food such as Brown Sauce, Pork Pies and Marmalade are often packed away for holidays alongside more bizarre items including fancy dress.

Following this research Viking River Cruises is sending all passengers a ‘What to pack’ guide prior to their holiday outlining key items to pack, ensuring they have everything they need to explore the world in comfort.

Wendy Atkin-Smith, MD of Viking River Cruises UK said “We were surprised to discover that so many British holidaymakers are forgetting their holiday essentials. We hope our handy ‘what to pack’ guide will prevent passengers from forking out unnecessarily to re-buy items they have forgotten.”
