See a little bit of history in Wakefield

Those who thought they had missed their chance to see an Olympic torch should head along to Scholars Gate in Wakefield.

They’ll get another chance to see, hold and be photographed with the iconic Olympic symbol – and to help raise awareness for a children’s charity at the same time.

The torch relay previously travelled through the town, passing close to housebuilder Redrow’s Yorkshire headquarters.

Now Sam Grundy, who carried the torch past the Redrow offices at the Wakefield 41 business park, has teamed up with the developer to bring the torch to their Scholars Gate new homes venture in Ruskin Avenue, Wakefield.

She will be at the development this Sunday (September 16) as part of a drive to raise awareness of the charity KIDS.

KIDS is a national charity providing emotional and practical support, information and advice to parents of disabled children. The charity helps more than 600 families in the Wakefield area.

Patsy Aicken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), commented: “Those who missed the opportunity to see the torch during the relay in Wakefield should come along to Scholars Gate on Sunday when they’ll have the chance to talk to Sam about the experience and have their photograph taken with the torch. Sam’s work raising money and awareness for disabled children’s charities is truly inspirational and we’re delighted to be able to support her fundraising for KIDS with a donation of £500.”

Sam and her torch will be at Scholars Gate from noon to 4pm this Sunday, September 16.

The event also marks the opening of two show homes at the development.

The three-bedroom Letchworth and four-bedroom Cambridge show homes have been professionally designed, decorated and furnished to create the impression of lived in family homes.
