Greek island specialist Ionian Villas has added 7 new properties to its programme for 2013 – one on each of the islands it offers – taking the total number of options to 140, from excellent value one-bedroomed apartments and cottages, to luxurious 6-bedroomed villas.

Ionian Villas was created by David Watrous, who has been selling holidays to Greece since he helped to set up the villa specialist company, Greek Islands Club, on Paxos with his father in the early 1970’s. Greek Islands Club was sold a few years ago and David now caters for Greek island visitors wanting more flexibility than the traditional package holiday.

Comments David: “The Internet has radically changed the package holiday business; the options to book each element of a Greek island holiday (villa, flight, transfer, car hire) have now increased to the advantage of the more independent traveller – but when it comes to booking a villa, most travellers want a reputable agent who knows the properties personally and has the experience of helping to make the right choice.

“I have heard many stories about people finding a villa on the Internet, booking it direct and then being disappointed to find not all is as it should be on arrival. We know all our owners personally, and have visited each and every property. We also have our own agent on each island to be available to clients anytime for anything.”

Ionian Villas offer properties to the islands of Paxos, AntiPaxos, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Meganissi, Lefkas and Corfu. Here is a brief rundown of the new 7 properties:

Paxos: Artist's Villa is a newly built (2011) three-bedroomed villa (sleeps 6) built on a hilltop overlooking Gaios port, with no immediate neighbours and surrounded by olive groves. The villa is owned by a local artist whose paintings adorn the villa’s walls and it also has a large private pool. A week’s rental costs from £1330 pp (£221 pp when fully occupied).

AntiPaxos: Villa Oneiro is one of only 4 villas with pools that are available to rent on the tiny island of AntiPaxos. It has only just been completed and is the plushest on the island. A holiday on AntiPaxos will satisfy those looking an escape from the crowds. The villa has a large pool and is just 200m from the port of Agrapidia and a 20 minute walk to a sandy beach. A week’s rental costs from £1120 (£186 pp when fully-occupied). The rental includes a Suzuki 4WD.

Ithaca: Dexa Beach House is a romantic retreat for couples, located – as the name suggests – just 15m from the beach, within a sheltered bay of olive groves, one kilometre north of Vathy, the island’s capital port. The House has a private, shaded terrace, bordered by white oleander and crimson bougainvillaea, and looks out through olive trees to the sea. A week’s rental costs from £500 or £250 pp.

Kefalonia: Villa Efkalyptos is a six - bedroomed villa sleeping 16 people (two bedrooms have two sets of bunk beds) making it ideal for two or more families who want to holiday together. It is set in large private grounds, surrounded by olive groves, and commands views from the villa’s many terraces across the sea to the island of Zakynthos. The villa has a large pool and is a two minute drive from the village of Spartia which has a number of tavernas and restaurants. A week’s rental is from £3260 (£203 pp when fully occupied).

Meganissi: Villa Arenia is one of three private villas, each set on a separate hillside terrace just above two beaches on the south east coast of tiny Meganissi. The villa, which sleeps two people, has a private pool, is just 1km from the sleepy village of Katomeri and is just a minute’s walk from the beach. A week’s rental is from £1140 or £570 pp.

Lefkas: Villa Camilla is located on a west coast hillside with views over the sea towards AntiPaxos. The two - bedroomed villa is a 10 minute drive from sandy beaches, said to be some of the best in Greece, and just 700m from the little village of Tsoukoulades, which has several tavernas, a cafenion and a supermarket. A private pool with a stunning view sits within colourful gardens. A week’s rental costs from £1060 (£265 pp when four share).

Corfu: Villa Aspro is one of three spacious, modern and stylish villas located in the north east of Corfu between the resorts of Barbati and Ipsos. The villa – which has views across the sea to the mainland of Greece – has 4 bedrooms and a host of private terraces, sumptuously furnished for al fresco dining and relaxing, and a private infinity pool. It is also just 180m from a small beach which is reached via a private path, and a five-minute walk from the local taverna. A week’s rental costs from £2860 (or £358 pp when 8 share).
