New homes have long claimed energy efficiency benefits over older properties, but now house builder Taylor Wimpey claims that buying a new home its Trevenson Meadows development in Newquay could actually help purchasers reduce their costs in the long run and make savvy savings in 2013.

According to research carried out by the house builder, buying new could save you over £1,200 a year in energy bills. Taylor Wimpey used an independent, qualified assessor to compare the energy efficiency and estimated cost of fuel bills for two properties - a traditional three bedroom detached house built in the early 1900s and a brand new three bedroom Taylor Wimpey home. The results showed a stark difference, with energy costs totalling an estimated £1,732 a year in the older property compared to just £510 in the new home. Carbon dioxide emissions from the older property were also nearly four times higher than those of the new build home.

Janine Copleston, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Exeter, comments: “A home is probably the most expensive investment you’ll ever make and it’s important to make the right decision. Choosing a new home over a second hand property could save you thousands on DIY, maintenance and improvements, not to mention on going savings in areas such as fuel bills.

“By moving to a brand new Taylor Wimpey property at Trevenson Meadows, homeowners can benefit from a range of energy saving features, such as double glazed windows and patio doors, excellent wall insulation and energy efficient heating as several of our houses are completed with solar panels, which helps to further reduce energy costs. We know these features make our modern homes significantly more energy efficient than older properties, leading to dramatically reduced fuel bills.”

Trevenson Meadows, located on Trevenson Road in Newquay, hosts a selection of two bedroom apartments as well as two, three and four bedroom houses, with prices starting from £144,995.

Due to the stage of build, a collection of three bedroom Chichester and four bedroom Lichfield homes are now available for immediate occupation, meaning purchasers can reserve now and move in for Easter. Taylor Wimpey is urging house hunters to view these homes sooner rather than later as there is only a limited number available. The Chichester is priced from £187,995, while the Lichfield is priced from £277,000 and Part Exchange is being considered for those with existing homes to sell.
