With the continued interest in UK-based ‘stay-cation’ holidays, BCA reports exceptional demand and competitive bidding in the recent specialist Caravan and Motorhome sale staged at the Measham auction centre on 11 January.

BCA Measham attracted over 200 dealer and private buyers to the first Caravan and Motorhome sale of 2013, with a further 70 trade buyers participating via the internet using BCA’s Live Online service.  The online catalogue for the Caravan & Motorhome sale on BCA’s Auction View website received a staggering 70,000 hits in advance, with several vehicles gaining over 2,000 views in the run-up to the sale.

The sale was also the first to feature the new ‘Care Packs’ from major caravan and motorhome vendor Black Horse Motor Finance, which contain all the documents available include a CRIS (Caravan Registration & Identification Scheme) check for caravans, and a V5 and VOSA check for motorhomes.

With the extra peace of mind for buyers, bidding was competitive throughout the sale and Black Horse sold 40 Caravans and Motorhomes, generating a turnover in excess of £300,000 on the day.

Stars of the Black Horse sale included a 2000/X   Roller Team Auto Roller 41 three Berth motorhome which sold for £8,700 at 42,000 miles, a 2010 Mooveo C6, 4 Berth Motorhome at 36,000 miles that sold for £17600 and the 2008 Auto-trail Chieftain SE, 6 Berth Motorhome at 12,000 miles that realised £32,600.

Dale Evans Northern Area Auction Manager for Lex Autolease said: “Our Black Horse brand has a huge following at Measham and we work very closely with BCA to ensure we offer a sparkling selection of vehicles in every sale.  With the extra peace of mind from the Black Horse Care Packs, this really is the place to be to bid on the widest selection of caravans and motor homes, with something to fit every budget.”

Alan Gupwell BCA Corporate Account Manager for Lex Autolease commented “With relatively limited opportunities to buy caravans and motorhomes at auction, these sales have always been popular, but the step up in interest so early in the year is unprecedented.  Buyers were competing very strongly across the board and values routinely exceeded guide prices - often by a considerable margin.”

He added “There have already been a number of reports that many families are considering staying in the UK and taking short breaks in 2013.  No doubt many see a caravan or motorhome as a good value investment for this year’s holiday and the years ahead.”
