Help and advice for first time buyers in Wigan

Would-be homeowners in Wigan are being invited to join Redrow this Sunday (March 17) to discover how they could get a foot on the property ladder with the help of a Government-backed scheme.

FirstBuy is available on selected homes at College Court, providing a welcome boost for those who long for a home of their own.

Eligible customers can take out an equity loan for up to 20% of the purchase price, enabling them to save them thousands of pounds off the initial cost of setting up home.

If that wasn’t enough, they should only need a relatively small deposit of around 5%. In fact those with savings of £5,000 could find they’re able to secure a brand new home.

Claire Jarvis, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), says: “It’s well documented that buying is cheaper than renting, with the latest research from the Halifax suggesting that buying a three-bedroom home is £120 a month cheaper than renting one. Plus, when you factor in the reduced costs purchasers can look forward to if they take advantage of FirstBuy, the potential savings are even greater.

“With the chance to buy with a relatively small deposit and access to some of the better mortgage rates available, FirstBuy is a fantastic way to make that crucial step onto the first rung of the property ladder. We would encourage anyone who’s renting or living with their parents and thinking of buying a home of their own to visit College Court this Sunday (March 17) to discover just how easy setting up home could be.”

With FirstBuy a two-bedroom apartment, available on the open market at £99,995, can be snapped up for an initial outlay of £79,996. That’s a saving of almost £20,000.

The outstanding balance is covered by an equity loan, jointly funded by Redrow and the Homes and Communities Agency. The loan is interest free for five years and can be repaid when the customer has more funds available.

To be eligible for FirstBuy customers must have an annual household income of less than £60,000 and be first time buyers or returning to the housing market after a change of circumstances.

Located off Robin Park Road, College Court is centrally placed for local amenities including supermarkets, a retail park, cinema, sports facilities and restaurants; while Wigan’s Grand Arcade shopping centre boasts a range of popular high street stores, cafes and bars. The homes are also within easy reach of the M6 motorway and rail network for commuting.

To find out how Redrow could help you onto the property ladder, visit College Court this Sunday (March 17).
