Experts predict later, stronger hayfever season

31st May 2013 Print

2012 saw the longest hay fever season in twenty years, leaving an estimated 9 million sufferers in agony. This year, scientists have predicted that the constant changes in weather will result in a shorter but more intense hayfever season, with June expected to be particularly bad.

Beverley Adams-Groom, Chief Palynologist from the National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit at the University of Worcester said, “This year the pollen seasons are late due to the cold winter and this means that more plants will be flowering simultaneously. So, a shorter season but perhaps more severe than last year is expected”.

Optician Lara Hefson advises, "Although people instantly think to take a tablet to soothe hayfever symptoms, Sodium Cromoglicate eye drops are key for hayfever sufferers with eye symptoms. They help to prevent the allergy response by stopping histamines being produced. This stops your eyes from getting itchy, red and watery, which can be a real relief. Murine have a drop specifically formulated for hayfever with a prescription strength solution that helps you carry on as normal".

Murine Hayfever Relief Eye Drops provides a straight forward, rapid and effective means of reducing eye discomfort caused by hayfever symptoms, without the need for a tablet.
