Homebuyers on Teesside are taking the opportunity to snap up a brand new home through the Government’s ‘Help to Buy’ initiative.

The scheme, which enables them to buy a new-build property with just a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage, has sparked a surge in demand.

Local housebuilder Barratt North East has sold around 90 homes through Help to Buy, including 15 at its developments in Norton, Stockton and Thornaby.

Now Barratt is hosting a special Help to Buy evening on Thursday 26 September at The Elms in Norton village, where the sales team will be on hand to answer questions about the scheme, which is available to all buyers, not just first-time buyers.

Visitors can also enjoy refreshments and view the two showhomes at the development.

“There’s no doubt the Help to Buy scheme is giving a real boost to buyers locally,” said Sales Director Fenton Hewitt.

“We believe this will continue, as people realise they can buy with a significantly lower deposit than they thought and just a 75 per cent mortgage.

“This means they can get a loan at a lower interest rate, which in turn means monthly payments are much cheaper.

“The Government will lend buyers the remaining 20 per cent, with no interest to pay on that for five years.”

At The Elms, Barratt has just released a selection of three-bedroom family homes from its new County Range, which feature light and spacious interiors, larger bathrooms and redesigned kitchens with dining and family areas.

Prices for the new designs start from £142,500.

Around 30 homes are already occupied at the development, which is in a quiet, semi-rural setting next to Norton golf course yet within easy reach of schools and amenities.

The open evening is being held from 5.00pm to 8.00pm at the sales centre, on Blakeston Lane. For details, visit barratthomes.co.uk/theelms.
