It’s always great to hear of businesses doing well in these trying economic times, and particularly, tales of firms fuelled by genuine passion and enthusiasm for their chosen field of endeavour. One such blossoming success story is the small but perfectly formed team at 2Refinish in Hinckley in Leicestershire. Formed to provide an expansive set of solutions to all aspects of classic car ownership and modern car refurbishment and personalisation, the 2Refinish talent pool boasts literally decades of experience, combined with the very latest finishing and painting techniques.
Founder Simon Norman decided to take the plunge into restoration having spent literally an entire working lifetime in the motor trade and feeling there was a gap for an enthusiast-focussed business that offered exceptional quality and service, but at a price level that most real enthusiasts could actually afford. Although the company is already well known for its multi-point, concours-perfect restorations and paintwork on cars like E-Types, Bristols and D-Type recreations, it’s equally as happy giving a cost-effective tidy to a cherished daily-driven Mini. ‘That’s what we’re all about, really,’ explains Simon. ‘2Refinish was conceived to be accessible to enthusiasts at every level, no matter what your budget or aspiration. We often find by looking after the small jobs well today, those customers stay with us as they rise through the ranks of classic car ownership. Everybody’s classic is their pride and joy, no matter what it is, so we apply the same standards of service and quality to all clients.’
In addition to their impressively old-school approach to restoration, 2Refinish has also build up an enviable network of engineering partners and local craftsmen, meaning that jobs like engine and gearbox rebuilds, powder coating and even bespoke upholstery can all be handled ‘in house’ allowing for a full project management service to be offered for each job, with a single point of contact, and regular-mail updates and photographs keeping the customer at the front line, even if they’re miles away.
As a personal passion of the founder, 2Refinish has a particular soft spot for the BMC Mini in all of its guises, and has many fine restorations of this superb classic under its belt. Able to offer everything from routine servicing to a complete, strip and rebuild – or even competition preparation, you’re always guaranteed to find a couple of Sir Alec’s finest on the go in the workshops.
