Leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has officially unveiled its Penn An Dre development in Truro after local residents were given the opportunity to choose its name.

The name Penn An Dre was selected following consultation with numerous individuals and organisations including Cornwall Council, Truro City Council and the Cornish Language Partnership.

Local dignitaries were invited to a special event at the development, which features a superb range of two to six-bedroom homes, on Friday 31th January when a sign depicting the new name was revealed.

Janine Copleston, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey, says: “We want our new developments to become a real part of their local community, which is why we offered people the chance to help choose the name Penn An Dre for our stunning collection of new homes in Truro.

Nev Meek, Chairman of the Place-Name and Street Signage Panel of the Cornish Language Partnership, which is hosted by Cornwall Council, says: “Cornish people have a heartfelt sense of place and a real attachment to their place names, of which the vast majority are in our Cornish language.

“It is pleasing to see Taylor Wimpey listen to local feedback and I am delighted that the Cornish name Penn an Dre – ‘Head of the Town’ – has been selected since this precisely fits the location, enhancing the cultural link between people and place, whilst also highlighting the visibility of our fantastic language.

“The Cornish Language Partnership look forward to working with Taylor Wimpey and other developers in the future.”

There is a stunning range of four-bedroom homes available to buy now at Penn An Dre, priced from £274,995.

The Plot 47 ‘Kentdale’ detached house, for example, is priced £299,995 and boasts a spacious dual-aspect living room, opening through French doors to a private rear garden, and a large kitchen/dining room, with a utility area and a guest cloakroom completing the ground-floor layout.

Upstairs, the landing leads to an en-suite master bedroom, three further bedrooms and a main bathroom, while outside there’s a garage and driveway parking.

Nestled on the edge of Truro, Penn An Dre benefits from an ideal location close to some of England’s most striking countryside yet remaining within easy reach of the city’s shops and leisure facilities.

The city centre boasts a fantastic mix of high street shops and independent boutiques, while one of the UK’s largest Marks & Spencer stores, two indoor markets and a farmers’ market means visitors can shop till they drop, whatever their taste and budget.

Parents will appreciate that there is a choice of primary and secondary schools close to the new homes, including Bosvigo School which was rated as ‘good’ in its latest Ofsted inspection.

Golfers will be pleased to know Truro Golf Course is less than a mile away from Penn An Dre, while stunning beaches are just a short drive from home.

For commuters, Truro railway station offers direct services to Penzance and Plymouth.
